Visual Art Syllabus

Teacher:  Mrs. Fariss

Course Goals:

Welcome to the world of Visual Art.  Students in Visual Art will have the opportunity to explore the world of art as an art historian and as an artist.  They will begin their journey by learning about different periods of art, about different artists of that time period, and about the different techniques used by the artist.  Then, they will use the techniques they learned and manipulate different media into creative pieces of art.

The purpose of this Visual Art class is for each student to develop the artistic ability they have.  Every student is at a different level of using the media and techniques.  And, every student can do!  To become better at manipulating the medium, students need to develop the belief that they can do it!  They also need to recognize that everyone in the classroom is at a different level and to understand that they cannot compare their level to anyone else.  They need to realize that to develop their artistic ability they need to practice.  Art is like everything else.  The more you practice the better you get.

Notebooks:

All students are required to keep a Visual Art notebook. The notebook must contain all worksheets and exercises.  Notebooks are taken up at the end of the nine weeks, which will count as the nine weeks test.  It is the responsibility of each student to keep his or her notebook organized and up-to-date.  Loose pages will not be accepted.

Make-up Work:

Make up work is allowed only if the absence is excused according to the Ga. Dept. of Education standards.  A note from the parent is required.  It is the responsibility of the student to arrange for all make up work.  All make-up work must be turned in within five school days of the excused absence.

Late Work:

Any assigned work that is not turned in on time will be considered a late assignment.  All late assignments will be penalized ten points for each day the assignment is late.
